February Lecture - Egyptian Blue, humanity's first inorganic pigment
Egyptian Blue first made an appearance over 5,000 years ago as the world's earliest synthetic pigment made from heating sand, lime, copper minerals, and alkali to form a brilliant blue. Professor John McCloy, Washington State University, will discuss the results from a study done in collaboration with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institue to recreate Egyptian Blue.
