This dramatic and inspiring presentation by Rachel McClinton, co-founder of Living Voices, the entertaining educational program that combines storytelling and performance, is being offered to celebrate the centennial year of women receiving the right to vote in the United States. The program combines a dynamic solo performance with archival film and sound, turning history into a moving and personal journey. The central character in the performance is Jessie, the daughter of a political columnist from Tennessee, growing up in Washington, DC during the early 1900's. She becomes deeply involved in the suffrage movement, in time comparing women's fight for the right to vote to the one her younger brother Will stands for when he goes overseas to fight as a WWI soldier. As tragedy strikes both at home and abroad, and the battle for the vote continues to escalate, everyone in Jessie‚Äôs family must face their own decisions about what they believe is right and the actions they are willing to take on this pivotal issue.
