August Film: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
Set in 18th-century France, a young painter named Marianne is commissioned to paint a wedding portrait of a reluctant bride, Heloise, in secret. Marianne must observe her during the day while pretending to be a companion, then paint her from memory at night. As they spend time together, their connection deepens as the wedding day nears.
Directed by Celine Sciamma. Run time: 2hr 2m. Content warning: rated R for some sexuality and nudity.
