Campbell House Special Guided Tour - preregister and meet in the Carriage House
Cost: $12 members, $15 non-members
In 1898, many Browne's Addition families relied on employees to keep their homes running smoothly. What do we know about those who lived and worked in Campbell House? Join us for this special guided tour as we explore the lives of the servants who lived and worked here. Hear about Coachman Joseph Gladding's early life in Ohio training horses and dogs into circus performers. Think about the changing technology for those like Joseph Rainsberry, the coachman who learned to drive an electric car. Examine the experiences of maid Rose Packard and the Wakefield family's reaction to a break in at their home. Compare and contrast the experiences of wealthy Helen Campbell and the chamber maid Iris Nelson during WWI. The stories we hear about the people who lived in Browne's Addition help bring the history of Spokane to life.
About the Program: We offer special guided tours of Campbell House focused on a topic not normally covered in your regular visit to the historic house. These tours last about 50 minutes and then you're welcome to tour the house on your own. We recommend pre-booking as the tour often sells out.
**Please be aware that Campbell House is a historical building with many stairs.**
